Alcohol (Chemistry)

In chemistry, an alcohol is any molecule that has an alcohol group (-C-O-H). The names of alcohols tend to end with "-ol", for example, methanol is the alcohol of methane, and ethanol is the alcohol of ethane.

Many biological molecules have alcohol groups. These are useful in making the molecule more water soluble and providing a reaction site.
