In chemistry, an alcohol group is a chemical group consisting of a hydrogen bonded to an oxygen (a hydroxyl group) which is bound to a carbon (-C-O-H). The carbon is not part of the alcohol group, but the oxygen must be bound to carbon to be considered an alcohol. A molecule that has an alcohol group is an alcohol.
