Anconeus muscle

The anconeus muscle is a muscle of the elbow that performs several supporting functions. It assists the triceps in extending the elbow and it abducts the ulna and stabilizes the elbow joint during pronation.

Origin

The anconeus originates from the humerus at the elbow joint. It attaches to the smooth surface at the lower extremity of the posterior aspect of the lateral epicondyle.

Insertion

The anconeus inserts on the ulna, at the lateral side of the olecranon process.

Innervation

The anconeus is innervated by the radial nerve (C7 and C8).
