Glycerol

Glycerol (also called glycerin and glycerine) is a viscous liquid used as a thickener in many food and cosmetic products. Chemically it is a 3 carbon chain, each with an alcohol group. Glycerin is an edible carbohydrate. In biochemistry, glycerol serves as the backbone of glycerides, a common means of storing fatty acids.
