Microscopic describes anything that is too small to see with the unaided eye but can be seen under a microscope. Anything too small to see with a microscope is submicroscopic. Microscopic is an approximation of scale, not an exact measurement.

Word origin

The word microscopic comes from the Greek micro, meaning small, and scope, meaning to look or to see.
