Natural selection

Natural selection is the process by which genes that make it more likely for an organism to survive and reproduce become more common in the gene pool over time, where genes that make it less likely become less common and may be eliminated.

Natural selection will always lead to a smaller gene pool as the less fit genes are eliminated. Genetic mutation increases the size of the gene pool. These two processes together are the driving force of evolution.
