Ornithiscia are one of the two main categories, or orders, of dinosaurs. The order, which is now extinct, consisted of herbivorous dinosaurs characterized by beaks and a bird-like hip structure. Ornithiscians were not, however, the ancestors of birds. Birds evolved from a suborder of dinosaurs called theropods, which were saurischian dinosaurs.
