The phalanges (singular phalanx) are the bones in the fingers and thumbs. There are three phalanges in each finger and two in each thumb.

The phalanges are distinguished based on their proximity to the hand. The bones closest to the hand are the proximal phalanges, the ones in the middle are the intermediate phalanges, and the farthest are the distal phalanges. The thumb does not have an intermediate phalanx.
