A polymer is a molecule of repeated structures called monomers. Plastics are polymers as well as protein, DNA, and many other biological solids. Conglomerates of atoms are not polymers - these include glass, metals, and plasma. Polyethylene is a common polymer, made by linking hundreds to hundreds of thousands of ethylene monomers together.
