The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a technique in biotechnology used to replicate DNA. It was designed by Kary Mullis. The technology is an in vitro replication process used to build multiple copies of a gene of interest through a series of carefully controlled heating and cooling cycles. PCR consists of three steps: denaturation, annealing, and extension.
