Silicon

Silicon is the fourteenth element in the periodic table. Its symbol is Si. Pure silicon is a very poor conductor of electricity, however, when doped with traces of more conductive elements, silicon rapidly becomes more conductive, making it a good semiconductor and a foundation of modern computing.
