The throat is a section of the body that begins at the back of the mouth and includes the pharynx, larynx and in some cases the esophagus and/or trachea. Throat is a colloquial term - there is no scientific definition of where the throat begins and ends.

The term sore throat can refer to pain in the pharynx (pharyngitis) or epiglottis, particularly when swallowing.

In some cases, the throat can include the blood vessels and skin surrounding the trachea.
