Uranium is the 92nd element in the periodic table. Its symbol is U. The radioactive properties of uranium together with its relative abundance on earth make it a popular choice for use in nuclear reactors and weapons. Elemental uranium is a silvery white metal. It is an actinide.

History

Martin Klaproth discovered uranium in 1789. It was named after the recently discovered planet Uranus. Dating back almost 2000 years, uranium has been used to color glass.
