YouTube is a video sharing website owned by Google. The site allows users to upload videos, which are converted to YouTube's native format and streamed to viewers all over the world. YouTube was one of the first online video players to operate through Flash, which gave it a distinct advantage over most internet video at the time, which were plagued by a multitude of different video players, each requiring its own download and a separate application.
After its launch, YouTube expanded rapidly both in content and popularity. It initially had no revenue generation model.
